Solar Cells Inside Woven Textiles is a research and artistic exploration of future sun-powered smart textiles. It is is my MA thesis from Aalto University Department of Design. The collection of handwoven fabrics showcases aesthetic and functional
potential of embedding electronics into the multilayered structure of cloth.
During the process, weaving techniques, photovoltaics technology, and surface design methods were mixed to create prototypes of functional textile composites. Each of the samples demonstrates a unique idea that could be used in a range of electronic textiles.
The process included several cycles of prototyping and testing. Measurements and electronics fabrication were done in collaboration with Aalto University Department of Applied Physics. The physical textile samples were woven by me with a TC2 digital jacquard loom and a manual shaft loom.
